In 1956, Evel Knievel got into a police chase, crashed his motorcycle, and ended up in jail for reckless driving. When the night jailer came around to check everyone, he saw Robert Knievel in one cell and William Knofel in another. Knofel was known as “Awful Knofel” (with “awful” rhyming with “Knofel”), so Knievel started being called Evel Knievel (with “Evel” rhyming with “Knievel”).

This unbelievable story is listed on Evel Knievel's website as the origin of his identity.

Unfortunately there is no such record of the other jailmates - maybe there was also Stalker Walker and Drug Dealer Wheeler.
